Class of 1998 Reunion Address
By Tahia Reynaga, BR’98
On May 24, 1998, on the last weekend we shared as a class, Tom Brokaw addressed us under a brilliantly sunny sky that belied the deluge that soon followed.
Foreshadowing the sentiments to be expressed in his bestseller The Greatest Generation, he implored us to receive our Yale education with gratitude and to commit ourselves to serve and promote “the fundamental values” of our generation.
This Reunion, our most significant yet, is being designed by our Class for our Class, so as to raise our profile and set in motion a momentum that will build with us to our 50th Reunion and beyond. We are investigating and producing initiatives never before accomplished by a Yale class, including programming innovations that will make that weekend in June impossible to forget.
Along these lines, it has been suggested that we may identify and invite a speaker who will address the Class of 1998, much like Mr. Brokaw did nearly ten years ago, and who will speak to our interests and anxieties, our careers and our ambitions.
So I ask you, Class of ’98, whom would you desire for such an honor?
Should it be a politico, a famous Yale graduate, a humanitarian, or a comedian? Does any ’98er have a connection or a lead? Let’s start planning, as we look forward to a 10th Reunion that will bear the standard, and be the standard, of ’98.

Why don’t we invite Tom Brokaw back? He might be interested to see what we’ve done with his words of wisdom.

Great idea, Eunice. Brokaw is making the book tour rounds once again, and I think this would be a well received invitation and a fine celebration of our milestone.
By the way, thank you so, so much for your wonderful efforts, and everyone else’s, too, at the ‘98 Tailgate!
(Sorry for this delayed response.)

Brokaw is a great idea…but i can also talk to Phylicia Rashad (aka Claire Huxtable) and invite her for a tea or something. If she is not booked, I am sure she will attend. She lives in Mt. Vernon.
